What's So Special About Coworking?

"You’ve heard of coworking, I’m sure. But it’s much more than resources and a place to do business. It’s a community – and it’s the future of how business is going to be done." - Forbes

We obviously have our own opinions about this topic, but it's something that's been researched and written about in numerous publications including Forbes, FlexJobs, and the Harvard Business Review.

1. Diversity - "People don’t want to work in tiny cubicles anymore. Working from home can be isolating – and coffee shops can be distracting. But when you cowork, the inspiration is through the roof. You’re surrounded by a ton of passionate people going for a dream." Coworking spaces are comprised of members of all types. At 3411 Coworking we have designers, graphic artists, accountants, video producers, writers, a structural engineering firm, a marketing analyst, and a realtor. This diversity brings about many unique skill sets that can shared within our community.

While members spend most of their time working on their own projects, they have opportunities to collaborate with their fellow coworkers and learn from each other. "Not only are you around other inspiring independent business owners – but you could be rubbing elbows with your next investor, your future partner or your board of advisors. There’s a lot of potential when you join the tribe of coworkers in your community."

2. Flexibility - Coworking memberships are typically month-to-month, providing flexibility with minimal commitment. For those who need an office setting and amenities without having to worry about a long-term lease, coworking spaces make it affordable and easy to choose a spot to work (communal areas or dedicated desks) and have everything else taken care of - internet, printers, coffee, snacks, and even places to lounge and relax.

The flexibility of 24/7 access is another perk. Members can choose to come in to get some work done when it's convenient for their schedules.

Another perk of working in a local coworking space is the ability to skip the daily traffic jam in Atlanta. An article by FlexJobs highlighting a trend within many companies of allowing employees to work remotely states, "If your employees are spending a lot of time every day commuting to and from your office, they’re probably coming to work with added stress and exhaustion as a result, and coworking from a space closer to their house can reduce all that negative commuting experience." We couldn't agree more.

3. Community - A Harvard Business Review article states, "Connections with others are a big reason why people pay to work in a communal space, as opposed to working from home for free or renting a nondescript office." One thing we strongly believe in is making people feel welcome and comfortable. We love having a relationship with our members, assisting them whenever we can, and providing a place where they can be inspired and productive. We also enjoy seeing our members build relationships with each other and that everyone is able to socialize as little or as much as they feel comfortable with. This statement from the Harvard Business Review article perfectly articulates that sentiment:"Importantly, however, socializing isn’t compulsory or forced. Members can choose when and how to interact with others. They are more likely to enjoy discussions over coffee in the café because they went to the café for that purpose – and when they want to be left alone elsewhere in the building, they are. And while our research found that some people interact with fellow coworkers much less than others, they still felt a strong sense of identity with the community. We believe this comes from coworkers knowing there is the potential for interactions when they desire or need them."

4. Meeting Rooms - "Coworking spaces are a great option to conduct important meetings with your clients and associates since they offer conference rooms which are usually free for members. It makes a much better impression to invite people to a coworking room than to your home or a coffee shop and will show how serious and dedicated you are to your trade." At 3411 Coworking we have a small group meeting room that seats up to 4 people and is the perfect space to host a couple of clients or a small team meeting. Our main conference room is fully-equipped and comfortably holds up to 15 people. Options like these to meet with clients, business partners, or to host workshops and events are one of the best perks of being part of a coworking space.

We could go on and on about why we think Coworking is so special, but to sum things up we love the community we've created here at 3411 Coworking. Our goal is to provide an environment for our members that allows them to be productive, feel welcome and comfortable, and thrive in their various businesses!
